There are three basic categories of individuals who need help for their drug or alcohol problem. The first includes those who know they have a substance abuse problem and want help with it. The second includes those who know they have a problem, but are not ready to reach out for assistance. The third category includes those who most likely have a problem, but aren't yet sure they do. Regardless of which group best fits you, you can take some initial steps towards learning about treatment and ultimately locating the right program.

- If you are looking for help for your addiction or substance abuse problem

There are numerous treatment programs available for you regardless of the severity of your substance abuse or addiction. You can find information online about most centers, as well as comprehensive lists of substance abuse recovery centers across the country. Do some research in order to find one which is best suited to your particular needs.

You can enroll in substance abuse recovery programs that cater to both alcohol abuse and drug abuse. Before selecting your preferred program, check for the program's license, the attention to your needs, and its cost.

- If you need help but aren't quite ready to pursue treatment

There are many resources available to you if you feel unprepared to seek assistance recovering from your substance abuse issue. Often, fear of the unknown will prevent a person from seeking help. You may benefit greatly just by acquiring knowledge about the different types of treatment programs available. You can find valuable information regarding the types of treatment involved in treatment. The more knowledge you have, the less scary treatment will seem.

Medical Detoxification

The first type of treatment for many individuals is detoxification. Detoxification is a crucial step on the road to recovery. Be aware though, that a good treatment program will do everything possible to minimize the symptoms, and help you successfully get through detox.

Not everyone requires this part of treatment; it depends on the substance you have been using, as well as how long you've been using it. During the detox process, your body will finally be ridding itself of the excess alcohol or drugs in your system.

Outpatient Treatment

Available for substance abuse recovery, outpatient treatment is also an option. It is best to choose this method if you must continue working or have other obligations to meet during treatment. Outpatient treatment may be the best option for those who want to be close to family during treatment. It is also the least expensive treatment option; if finances are extremely limited, outpatient treatment is often the best option. For those with less serious needs, outpatient treatment may be sufficient.

Keep in mind that if you choose outpatient treatment, you must make sure your home and workplace are free of alcohol or drugs. If they are present, they will tempt you, and you will be much less likely to succeed in treatment.

Inpatient or residential treatment

These are the most rigorous treatments. You actually live at the facility for an extended period. This provides you a respite from all the things such as work or home related stress, which may distract you from focusing on your recovery.

12-Step Programs

These and other self-help groups can play an important role in your recovery from substance abuse. It can be very helpful to enroll into a 12-Step program while you undergo treatment in order to benefit from the experience of others; they have gone through or are currently going through the same thing. If you are serious about recovery, you will need to commit fully to a program and attend regular meetings until you complete the 12 steps. Many people continue attending 12-step meetings for years after initial treatment, for support and accountability.

-These are only a few types of treatments which can help you successfully overcome your battle with substance abuse or addiction.

- If you're not sure you have a substance abuse problem or addiction

You may have some suspicions about your drinking or drug habits, but you may not be fully convinced that you actually have a problem, let alone an addiction. If this is the case, there are many online interactive tests which, once completed, measure your level of substance abuse or addiction. Knowledge is power, and recognizing the extent of your problem may be what it takes to get you to reach out for help.

Many of these tests have a high level of accuracy, so the results should tell you whether you need treatment or not. Tests such as the Drug Abuse Screening Test and the Alcohol Use Disorder Identification Test have played a significant role in motivating individuals to finally seek treatment.

Regardless of where you are right now, in terms of readiness for treatment, please note that alcohol and/or drugs do not need to control your life. Even if it seems there is no hope for you, know that there is. Take the first step towards learning about treatment options. Locating the best treatment program for you may seem like a daunting task at first; once you start educating yourself on your options, you will find that it is not as difficult as it seems. We work with the very best Florida drug rehab program. If you are in trouble, and addiction or alcoholism is causing you or a loved one pain, please call today for help.
